Alasdair Gray drawing
I was meaning to contribute a picture to a small show of famous Glaswegians or “famous weegies”. When I helped out Alasdair with his mural last year I wanted to do a picture of him working in his West end flat (such high ceilings) at his desk with his books and paintings. I missed the show running out of time but wanted to finish it anyhow.

Dear Wil,
Ohhhh!!! What a wonderful work!! Beyond language expression. Thank you for sharing it.
Kind regards, Sadami
A beautiful composition. The colours work perfectly and all the detail is mesmerizing. It certainly must have taken you a long time to plan and execute this painting. The more I examine this painting, the more I discover. For instance, in front of Alasdair there appears to be a small mirror. It makes me wonder what he’s using it for.
I’m just curious about the size of this work. My guess is at least 20 x 30 inches. And I expect it to be a watercolour?
Thanks for posting this captivating work.
Thanks Chris, yes I do plan on making it a print. I’m having a mini exhibition sometime next month in Glasgow and should have something available then.
Thanks Sadami
thanks Michael, there are alot of nick knacks among the shelves. Even a skull directly infront of the desk.
yes there’s a mirror behind the bookshelves around Alasdair’s desk. I think it helps brightening the room as shelves can be quite dark (also handy for selfportraits?). Sizewise its a bit smaller than A3.
this is a stunner alright Wil. I like the lighting.
Your drawing brings me into your world…LOVE IT!
