Life drawing, painting
This month I’ve been doing a full day a week at life drawing to hopefully work on my painting. There are moments where I feel I’m kind of “getting it” but then others where its a whole lot more difficult. I’m still working at that transition of drawing what I see (and copy) to what I understand. Its fun in a way that you almost surrender yourself by that I mean that in order to make something look 3 dimensional you have follow a way or method to get the effect you want to achieve.
So, in painting from life its a systematic series of steps to render the form well. I think instinctually I want to dive in with lots of colours and heart and just go for it and hope for the best. For the moment though I’m slowing down and taking it one step at a time and working it out like learning a new language.
I read this in Saturday’s Guardian about writing…
” Writing fiction is not “self-expression” or “therapy”. Novels are for readers, and writing them means the crafty, patient, selfless construction of effects.”
- Sarah Waters
